How to Style Dark Denim 👖
Move over light wash, dark denim has ARRIVED. If you’re going to buy denim this year, make it dark.
Yes, you heard that right. Dark denim is alllll the craze this year, friends. Jeans, skirts, jackets, shirts, hats, shorts, and even shoes. The 90s faded washes have been the go-to denim for the past couple years, but the dark blue/indigo washes have made a huge comeback. Just like the psychedelic prints that are also trending this year, these darker washes were so hot in the 70s. But they are even hotter now being spotted all over the Spring/Summer 2022 runway shows.
I recently got a new pair of dark denim jeans and not gonna lie, I struggled at first with how to create an outfit with them. My brain just wasn’t used to seeing this wash in my wardrobe. Once I started to try stuff on it became much easier and made more sense but the initial styling was a shock. That’s why I wanted to dive deeper into this topic for the blog this week to show you ways that you can style your dark denim this season. Don’t worry, I gotchu!
Check it out:
The more dark denim I’ve introduced back into my wardrobe, the more colours and patterns I’ve experienced with it seems. Any shade of denim is a neutral palette that goes with just about anything in your closet, but there are definitely some colours and textures that really pop with a darker base. Take a nice sage green turtleneck for example – it looks TOTALLY different with light wash denim versus dark denim. Neither are bad, just V different. Some other colours that look bomb against a dark denim are red, cream, mustard yellow, and green.
Another way to rock dark denim this season is to just commit and go alllll out. Try a full length denim dress with a tall boot or my personal fav, the Canadian tuxedo. You seriously can never go wrong. I used to really like the look of mixing light and dark denim in my tuxedo, but this year I’m really digging the dark denim on denim ensemble. It’s just such a classic look. I find the dark denim automatically makes your fit look just a bit more polished. Some of my all time fav brands that carry stunning dark denim are: Levi’s (obviously), Agolde, Abercrombie, Mott & Bow, and Zara.
I hope this has helped you envision some fun dark denim looks. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited for this trend! Any trend that involves denim is usually a good trend…except for maybe low-rise jeans…. That one still scares me.
Happy DARK shopping!
Until next hump day…
Peace & love!
