Dad Chic 👔

Let’s finally give dad the style credit he deserves!

I’m sure some of you read the title of this blog and instantly questioned me and my sense of style. I GET IT. It may seem weird…. but just hear me out for a second. We’ve ALL shamed our dads HARD at some point in our lives for making some sort of fashion no-no. Whether it be dressing too touristy on a family trip, tucking in their shirts into their slightly too high of pants, cargo-shorts that are way too big, or chunky-ass sneakers. Dad style is all around us and is absolutely thriving whether you like it or not. In fact, you may not even be aware of it.

In honour of Father’s Day this upcoming weekend, I thought it would only be appropriate to shine some light on the dad style trend and how it’s actually WAY cooler than you might be picturing. I’m not talking the dad style when they are attempting to dress younger than their age, I’m talking about the dad style when they dress exactly for their age – think 90s Jerry Seinfeld, Brad Pitt, Patrick Dempsey, Will Smith, and Johnny Depp. The👏 Best👏Looks👏.

(Jerry Seinfeld, 90s)

I have put together some sick dad looks to show you what I mean. Tell me you don’t love these… I’ll wait.

We have been rocking some classic dad looks for longer than you think. For starters, the dad hat. We have all been living for the classic ball cap for a while now because not only is it great for greasy hair days, but it goes with just about any outfit in the wardrobe. Another trend that has gone viral over the past couple years, thanks to dad, is the chunky sneaker. Some of you love it and some of you hate it, but it has and always will just scream DAD.

We’ve also fully embraced the oversized button-down shirts. This style was inspired by the well-known “work shirt” for dad. I’m obsessed with this style and love to switch it up with different colours and patterns. Moreover, some other dad style staples are the oversized trousers and blazers. Sooooo chic! I actually will purchase a size or two larger than my regular size in these pieces just so I can achieve that 90s dad look. I loooooove.

A more recent trend I’ve seen a lot of this year is the dad jean. Similar to the mom jean, the dad jean has a cut and silhouette that replicates that menswear vibe. Brad Pitt will forever be my inspo in the dad jean department. Pair the dad jeans with some high white tube socks and sneakers, or a traditional pair of Arizona Birkenstocks… and you can call yourself daddy!!

If you’re a skeptic, I hope these looks have helped you to understand that dad is actually very fashionable. And if you’re already a believer, I hope I’ve helped to roll your online cart closer to the “Checkout” button.

Until next hump day…

Peace & love!
