Halloween Costumes You Already Have In Your Closet 🎃
Halloween Costumes You Already Have In Your Closet 🎃
BOO!
Spooky season is upon us, friends. It’s Halloween! I’d say Halloween is up there for fav holidays for me, following Christmas and Thanksgiving of course. For most, Halloween is the time of year to dress up as your fabulous alter ego that you have always secretly or not so secretly wanted to be for the night, or alternatively as your worst, terrifying nightmare… there really is no in between. Whether you are a Winnie the Pooh or Pennywise type, we can all agree that Halloween will look veryyyy different this year.
Perhaps your usual Halloween plans are going out to a bar, a house party with friends, or trick-or-treating with the youngins. Although these traditions may change this time around, it doesn’t mean that you can’t still have your usual fun and dress up! Whether you’re planning a Zoom call with family and friends or simply just rocking your look around the house (absolutely no judgement here), I have some costume ideas for you.
I usually go ALL out for Halloween – the outfits, the makeup, the hair, everything. It honestly ends up costing me anywhere between $100-$150 every year. However, this year I decided to challenge myself and see what I could do with basic items most people have in their closets instead of going out and purchasing more.
2020 has been a scary year in and of itself, so I decided to steer clear of the creepy looks and keep my costumes fun, bubbly, light-hearted, and most importantly, EASY.
Damien – Mean Girls Most Underrated Character
The easiest yet most impactful costume to date. This is a 2004 CLASSIC. I would say this costume is great for millennials but may be unrecognizable for the Gen Z and Gen Alphas of the world.
What you will need:
- Oversized hoodie tied around head
- Black or dark jeans
- Dark shoes
- Black sunglasses
- Sign that reads “She doesn’t even go here!”
- Bonus – yell the saying like Damien does in the movie
Britney Spears – Baby One More Time Era
How fun?! Anyone who says that they haven’t wanted to be Britney at some point in their life is for sure lying. Definitely this 90s girl’s dream come true!
What you will need:
- Black mini skirt
- White button up shirt – can definitely borrow from man/dad/brother if need be
- Cardigan
- Black high socks
- Black shoes
- Hair done in two braids
- Bonus – x 2 pink fluffy scrunchies
Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee From Greece
You can never go wrong with throwing it back to Greece! Sandy is fun, sexy, and chic all at the same time. Get those curls going and embrace that red lip.
What you will need:
- Black leggings, bonus if they are leather
- Black off-the-shoulder shirt (or a black tank top moved to be off-the-shoulder)
- Red heels
- Black leather jacket
- Extra curly hair
- Red lipstick – this is key!
I Believe “We Can Do It” Because Rosie the Riveter Says We Can
A cultural icon from WWII, Rosie has been on my Halloween costume list for a long time. However, I didn’t realize just how easy it is to achieve her look.
What you will need:
- Denim shirt
- Jeans
- Black boots
- Red bandana
- Red lipstick
- Bonus – show off that flex to match the iconic pic!
I had a ball putting together these costumes. I had to stop myself at four looks but I swear I could have kept going. I think the initial reaction is to go out and buy something new each year for your costume to be different and unique, and trust me I’m definitely guilty of this. However, it was actually a lot of fun for me (and my wallet) to utilize my existing wardrobe and get creative. I encourage all you Hallo-lovers to try and do the same, especially if you have multiple looks you want to do this season.
I want to wish everyone a happy, and more importantly SAFE, Halloween.
Have fun, eat candy, get weird, and stay spooky! 👻
Until next hump day…
Peace & love!
