POP of Colour
POP of Colour
Colours speak louder than words.
Just because it’s fall and we’ve already had our first snowfall here in Canada (crying), doesn’t mean that we can’t still wear our favourite FUN colours. A huge misconception of colour is that you can only wear it when the sun is shining and the weather is warm. Although this may feel like the case, this is so unbelievably false. Colour can and in fact should be worn all year round, friends!
I actually think it’s important to mix in some pops of colour throughout the colder months. Don’t get me wrong, I do love to wrap my body in some blacks, greys, and navys from head to toe as soon as the temperature drops, but I’ve learned that colour is where it’s at! I’m telling you. Not only will pops of colour in your fall wardrobe boost endorphins for you and anyone else around you, it is also different from your everyday cold weather looks and different is freakin’ cool.
I have created several outfits where I very easily could have just gone the basic route, but decided to add that pop of colour instead. Sometimes taking the risk is the way to go!
To set the record straight, I am in no way contradicting my past blog post, Back to the Basics. I still very much am a HUGE fan of basic clothing items and do think that this is where you should start and where you should invest in your wardrobe – your blacks, whites, and greys. However, if you do have a solid line-up of basics already and feel that you are ready to introduce some statement colour pieces, DO IT! You will see that my outfits are still very basic with just an added statement piece of colour. Fun, right?!
There really is no rule on which colours you should or shouldn’t wear in the fall. Blue, red, green, yellow, purple, orange, pink… you name it, you can wear it. By adding these pops of colour to your outfit, you are completely changing the vibe and tone which is never a bad thing. It’s a great way to elevate or alter an outfit no matter where you are going. The key here for fall is if you are wearing a bright coloured item like a pair of trousers, pair it with a more neutral, fall-esque top, such as a knit sweater layered with a long trench coat. This will not only make the trousers pop, but will also keep the outfit practical for colder weather.
There is also no rule as to where your pop of colour lives on your outfit. It can be a coloured blazer, pants, shoes, turtleneck, purse… anything! I find wearing colours is actually a really great way to express myself on any particular day. If I’m feeling happy and energetic, I may wear red, yellow, orange, or pink. If I’m feeling confident and ready to take on the world, I may wear blue, purple, or green. Incorporating colours into your outfits is powerful, chic, and FUN.
During these scary times that we are living in, I find myself trying to add more and more colourful pieces into my wardrobe. It makes me happy and challenges me to brainstorm multiple outfit combinations with different colours. Win-win!
Your outfit is your blank canvas… now pick up a brush and add some colour to that painting! 🎨
Until next hump day…
Peace & love!
