Winter is Coming ❄️

Winter is Coming ❄️

… as The Starks in GOT would say. Grab your parkas & scarves, friends.

Brrrrrr! The most controversial season of the year – winter. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s coming and it’s coming in hot cold… at least that’s the case in Canada anyway. The first snowfall has come and gone which means it’s only darker, colder, and snower days from here on out. Since it takes way more energy to be bitter about it, I decided that this year I’m going to try (keyword: try) to embrace winter and everything that it has to offer.

There are some things I really do love about winter though – warm drinks, cozy fires, ice skating, flannel sheets, snow, comfort food, skiing and après skiing. But if you know me at all, my most favourite thing about winter most definitely has to be the fashion… duh, are you surprised? I’m talking all things coats, scarves, turtlenecks, boots, jackets, sweaters, and toques. Basically anything that makes you feel as if you are wrapped up in a cozy burrito cocoon is exactly what I love about winter clothing. Warm & cozy!

And since cozy burritos are a full on vibe, I put together several winter looks that I’m excited to rock this winter. Check them out!

One trend I love and embrace in the winter months is layering – who doesn’t love the look of a layered outfit? It’s chic, trendy, and SO practical. Since winter typically comes with colder weather, layering really is the trick to staying warm. However, sometimes you want to stay warm but also look cute AF and laying allows you to achieve both of these goals in one single outfit. Win-win! Just start with a long sleeve turtleneck, add a crewneck sweater or cardigan, and finish the look with a trench coat or puffer jacket paired with a scarf. If you get warmer or colder throughout the day, just add or remove layers. The possibilities with layers really are endless!

Another trend I live for in the winter are boots of all shapes, heights, and sizes. I LOVE boots. Boots in the winter just screams warm toes which is satisfying in and of itself. This year I’ve been really into a good chunky boot. I’ve been wearing my Prada dupes from Zara soooo much. I find them to be really versatile with my wardrobe and just super cool. You can wear them with almost anything – leather pants, jeans, a skirt, or a dress and they all look equally as cool.

Winter style is unique because the fabrics, textures, and colour palettes change quite a bit from fall. Instead of corduroy and suede, winter more so embraces textiles like fleece, tweed, cashmere, and velvet. Don’t you worry though… fabrics like plaid, vegan leather, and wool follow us from fall right on through to winter (phew). No need to stress there. In terms of winter colours, it changes slightly every year depending on what’s hot that season. This year I’m LOVING light grey, pale aqua, chocolate brown, berry red, imperial plaza purple, winter white, cobalt blue, pine tree green, dark beige, burgundy, and of course, black.

Winter is a longggg season in Canada, which is why it’s so important to love the clothes you have because we will be wearing them for a while. Some items that I’m seriously digging this winter are chunky knit sweaters, wide leg jeans, coloured turtlenecks, plaid pants, wool trench coats, sweater dresses, layered crewnecks, patchwork skirts, vegan leather pants, high socks, chealsea boots, headbands, vests, and berets. There is such a variety of clothing items to wear in the colder months so it’s easy to mix and match. This allows for more outfit combinations with the same clothing which in turn allows for less money spent.

Due to the cold weather, winter is one of those seasons where people sometimes tend to get into a bit of a fashion rut. I’ve been guilty of this myself in the past. Especially this year with the current restrictions surrounding COVID-19, winter style may not be at the forefront of everyone’s minds. HOWEVER, in an attempt to keep things positive, getting dressed everyday and having fun with your winter looks may help to make you feel better, look better, and perhaps more productive in your day.  So, I say get those snow tires put on so you don’t fall into any more fashion ruts this winter!

Stay warm, stay stylish, and stay happy friends. Happy winter shopping!

Until next hump day…

Peace & love!
