Flower Power 🌸
“Floral? For Spring? Groundbreaking.” - Miranda Priestly
Miranda is right. Florals are definitely not a new concept for Spring, but they are such a classic that the season wouldn’t be the same without it. Fashion seems to have an ongoing love affair with floral prints. It’s okay fashion, so do I. It appears that every Spring, florals are absolutely everywhere you look. While the floral print is in full bloom yet again this season, it looks a little different than in recent years. In 2021, we are seeing a lot more of that large and in-charge floral from the 70s and 80s. It’s the kind of floral that is in your face a little bit, but in the best way possible. The bigger and brighter, the better!
You truly can never go wrong with floral in the Spring/Summer. I’m the type of person who dresses to reflect how I’m feeling and what I’m surrounded by. For example, in the winter it’s cold and miserable so naturally I bundle up, usually in darker colours because the sun sets at 4:00PM. When I’m at a beachy destination like Mexico, I like to wear bright, vibrant colours in cooler fabrics to match the colourful scenery. During the warmer months here, I’m outside 24/7 with nature and therefore am inspired by floral prints all around me. Floral has always been cool, is cool, and always will be cool in my eyes.
I’ve put together a couple floral looks I’m LIVING for this season. Let’s not reinvent the wheel here, florals is here to stay!
I’m loving all kinds of floral – delicate, mandala, vintage-inspired, abstract, elegant, paisley, western, toile, and all the rest. I’m also loving floral in the form of any clothing item whether it be cute tops, jeans, skirts, hats, shoes, or dresses. I’ve also seen much more risk-taking with floral this season which I’m super into. Mixing & matching florals is something I never thought I’d like but it works!
The floral patterns have always given off a very delicate, feminine vibe. One thing I love to do with an outfit that is overly feminine is to offset the look with a bit of grunge. For example, take a cute floral mini dress – add a pair of sneakers and a scrunchie and you’re the girl next door; add a pair of combat boots and a leather jacket and you’re a badass. I would definitely rock either look but it’s fun to switch it up.
If you’re looking to freshen up your Spring/Summer wardrobe, I suggest adding a floral piece. There’s just something about it that makes you feel GOOD. Flowers = happiness.
Until next hump day…
Peace & love!
