The wait is over, my friends… the time has finally come. IT’S OFFICIALLY SUMMER!!! The time to go to the beach, have patio drinks, enjoy park days, go for evening strolls, live that cottage life, have a bottle or two of Rosé, go boating, go for ice cream dates, and make memories. How very “Summer Vibes” board on Pinterest of me! But actually, if this didn’t just put a great big smile on your face, then I’m not sure we can be friends. Summer is just the best – no ifs, ands, or buts!

One thing missing from the list above is of course, summer fashion. Even though I live in Canada and we really only have summer for two months of the year, I dreammmm about summer clothes. I definitely have way too much, but every season I buy more and more. I can’t help myself. The cute tanks, short-shorts, dresses, sandals, t-shirts, bathing suits, hats, I love them all. 

The temperatures may be through the roof, but there is still plenty of time to get your summer style figured out in order to look and feel like your best summer self! I also feel like we ALL deserve a little summer treat-yo-self shopping spree after that wild ass year we just had. So let’s go nuts. 

The trends for this summer are probably all trends you have seen before, but they are back and are bigger and better than ever. Check out some summer looks I’ll be rocking this season:

The trends I’m living for this summer:

Crochet 🧶  – Not to be confused with your Grandma’s crochet, this trend is WAY cooler (no offence, Grams). I’m talking straight up 70s, hippy vibes with the crochet tops, shorts, hats, and bags this season. Crochet is the perfect way to add colour and texture into your looks. With the pandemic locking us up for over a year, it has resulted in tons of awesome DIY fashion trends, and crochet is most definitely at the top of that list. 

Bucket Hats 🪣 – If you’re resisting the bucket hat trend, just stop. It’s here and it’s here to stay, so get with it! Bucket hats are the epitome of cool and actually go with so many fits. Not to mention, different textured bucket hats can give off such different looks. For example, a vegan leather bucket hat is très chic with a slip dress, while a terry cloth bucket hat with a bikini is total beach vibes. Loveeee.

Mini Dresses 👗 – Did someone say hot girl summer?? I certainly did! Mini dresses are absolutely everywhere this season – the shorter, the better. Whether it’s an a-line, bodycon, slip, or halter, you need it in the mini form. You can dress your mini dress up or down by pairing it with sneakers or boots for the perfect summer vibe. 

Silk Bandana Tops 🤠 – You have been living under a rock if you haven’t seen this trend yet. IT’S SO GOOD. A silk bandana is most definitely the most versatile piece you can have in your wardrobe this season. Not only can you wear it as a top in more than 10 ways, but you can also make it into a bag, a hair piece, and a belt accessory. This is a definite MUST this season, friends!

Square-Toed Shoes 🟩  – Say goodbye to the rounded-toe and pointed-toed shoes, and make way for the square-toed. This trend is so hot this season and can be found on just about any celebrity paparazzi photo taken in the past three months. I find the square-toe to be extremely flattering and gives off that vintage feel, which I always strive for.

Matching Lounge Sets 🛋️ – I don’t know how it’s physically possible for myself to actually want more loungewear, but somehow I do. Matching lounge sets are where it’s at this season, whether it’s shorts and tank, pants and sweater, long sleeve and shorts, or bra top and pants…if it’s matching, it’s in. It used to be such a faux pas to actually wear a matching set together, but now it’s a faux pas not to! 

Biker Shorts 🚲 – Biker gangggg. Biker shorts have been in for a minute now and still are all the craze this summer. The difference from last summer to this summer is that biker shorts have taken it to a new level with different prints, colours, and textures. I find biker shorts to be soo comfty and stylish so I’m here for all of it. 

Cowboy Boots 👢 – Yeehawwww! I talked about cowboy boots and how they are seriously on trend this summer in my Must-Have Shoes of the Summer blog from last week. They may seem like a heavy boot to be trendy in the summer months, but paired with lighter clothes like biker shorts, a mini skirt, or a floral dress and they make much more sense. Very into this look! 

Linen ANYTHING 🧺 – The ancient, natural fabric is back and is probably the most popular trend of 2021. Linen is absolutely everywhere you look! Not only is it one of the most sustainable fabrics, but it’s also extremely breathable which makes it great in the summer months when the weather is HOT. Linen dresses, matching sets, pants, shorts, bags, hats, and crop tops – I want it ALL. 

Wide Leg Jeans👖  – Every store I’ve been to or brand I’ve looked up seems to be carrying their version of a wide leg jean. It would be stupid not to this season because they are so in. I find wide leg jeans to be so flattering on the body and are just much more comfortable than a skinny jean (circa 2011). Paired with a crop top, an oversized button up, or bodysuit and you got yourself a look! 

If you love summer fashion like I do, you will absolutely feel the need to refresh or add to your summer wardrobe yet again this year. When shopping, think mini, crochet, linen, square-toed, wide-leg, banada vibes and you’ll be set! Happy summer friends 🍦
