Mixin’ & Matchin’ Styles

Because who says you have to stick to one style?

Do you ever look at yourself in the mirror or see photos of yourself and think that you always seem to wear the same pieces in the same combinations? If you answered yes to this question, you could very well be in what we call a style rut. Not to fret! This happens to everyone. The good news is that there are definitely ways to break out of a style rut. Option 1) go out and purchase new pieces that you’ve never considered owning before, or option 2) layout your entire wardrobe and try to pair your existing pieces in new combinations. Both options are great, but option 2 is easy and cost-saving, and we love that! I like to call this mixin’ & matchin’ styles.

This technique is one of my FAV things to do when I feel that I’m slipping into a style rut myself. I find mixin’ & matchin’ styles to be an exciting activity and one that really helps to bring out my creative side. Even though I truly do love me a complete matching set (I really, really do), it’s so fun to switch it up. Sometimes we just need a little twist with our fits – a WOW factor if you will. In fact, a common side effect of using the mix & match technique is that you will hear from friends, “wow that’s a nice top, is it new?” And who doesn’t love that??

Here are some looks of mix & match pieces that I would wear in a heartbeat:

The idea of mixin’ & matchin’ styles can mean many things. First, it can mean mixing different styles of clothing, for example, business attire with western style, or ultra feminine with a biker vibe. Second, it can mean mixing different colours and patterns such as stripes and floral. Lastly, mixin’ & matchin’ can be a combination of the two just mentioned – this one is intimidating for sure, but if executed properly… a masterpiece of an outfit!

Some mixed styles ideas:

  • Blazer & cowboy boots
  • Puff sleeve shirt & denim overalls
  • Oversized button-up shirt & biker shorts
  • Crochet tank & trousers
  • Ruffle dress & combat boots
  • Unitard & jean jacket
  • Vegan leather mini skirt & sneakers
  • Bikini top & flare jeans
  • Matching sweat suit & blazer
  • Crewneck sweater & tennis skirt

Have the most fun mixin’ & matchin’ styles in your wardrobe to create new looks, expand your outfit selections, and to look cool doing it.

Until next hump day…

Peace & love!
