Holiday Outfit Guide 🎄
'Tis the season to be jolly… and chic.
9 DAYS, FRIENDS! 9 WHOLE DAYS!!! 🎅 We are into single digits here, people. Can you believe that Christmas is right around the corner? If you can’t tell, I’m clearly very, VERY excited for the holiday season. I say season because in my world, Christmas really is its own season just like summer, fall, winter, and spring. Similar to the other seasons, Christmas has its own look, feel, smell, music, food, decor, and of course fashion.
In my family, Christmas is THE holiday to go allllll out. I’m not joking when I say people have called my family home the house from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation my entire life. You can see our Christmas lights as soon as you turn onto our street, no word of a lie. Our house seriously looks like it’s straight out of a Hallmark Christmas movie, decorated from top to bottom. I jokingly call my mom Mrs. Claus but also kind of secretly believe that she might actually be her somehow. Needless to say, Christmas is in my blood and therefore is treated like a season.
When referring to Christmas style, I’m not talking reindeer antlers, ugly Christmas sweaters, or Santa hats, although those are all pretty great too (hence my header photo). My closet and I fully prepare for the holidays – I’m talking chunky knit turtlenecks, Christmas plaids, bright reds, cozy sweaters, fuzzy socks, forest greens, and holiday dresses. You know when you see an outfit and you think to yourself, “wow that is so Christmasy”? That would mean it qualifies for your holiday season wardrobe! I’m not crazy I swear…
Since it’s hard to explain what I mean, take a look for yourself. I got a little carried away with my outfits this year so don’t mind me.
Whether you’re planning to rock around the Christmas tree, bake sugar cookies, watch Hallmark movies, take nice Christmas photos, cut down a tree, make a gingerbread house, have some wine, or just lounge around the house… there’s an outfit for that! I think more often than not, people take the comfort route when styling their outfits over the holidays. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that and I actually fully and whole-heartedly support that, especially this year. However, there are ways to be comfortable AND still look cute. For example, if you’re hoping to step it up for Christmas dinner, try swapping your track pants and hoodie for a loose-fitting dress layered with a knit sweater. This is not only super duper cute and gives off “Feliz Navidad” vibes, but it’s also comfortable and easy to wear.
There is nothing that screams the holidays more than a classic Christmas plaid. You know exactly the one I mean… the plaid with a little bit of red, green, black, white, and yellow. You can’t go wrong, I say wear it up! I have it in pants, sweaters, jackets, and even shoes. Wear this plaid as much as you can during the month of December and throughout the holidays because after New Years, I sometimes question whether this particular plaid works throughout the winter. I think just because it is SO prominent during the holidays, it’s hard to think of anything else when you see it. Another pattern I find to be extremely holiday-esque is fair isle, unless you live in Iceland where it is trendy all year around. I love fair isle with the right outfit such as a black mini skirt or leather trousers, and it’s nice because it comes in so many different variations and colours to switch it up.
You can totally mix and match your holiday pieces for different festive activities too. This is super helpful if you are like me and have to pack a bag and travel home for the holidays. The struggle is real trying to fit everything I need into one small bag, so versatile pieces are always best. For example, if you are wearing a chunky knit sweater with jeans while holiday shopping, you can totally wear the same sweater with a midi skirt tucked in for Christmas dinner and it looks completely different. No fear of an outfit repeat here!
However, the most important thing about the holidays and the looks you are putting together is to have fun with it. It’s not meant to stress you out in any way. The holidays can already be stressful enough for other reasons, no need to stress over your outfits too. All of these looks I put together are super easy, fun, and most importantly, comfortable. It is Christmas after all, HAVE FUN!
Whether you are celebrating with family in-person or virtually this year, I wish you health, happiness, and great outfits in whatever you celebrate!
Until next hump day…
Peace & love!
